Wisconsin Naturalization Records Help

I am indexing the above. I can see through the comments that yes, I do need to also index the Declaration of Intention as well as the Petition. (Both documents are shown in the same image.) I have two questions.

1. Do I reference the actual date on the Declaration of Intention when asked for Naturalization Date? Or do I reference the date on the second document (the Petition)?

2. The next image contains the signature and date the Petition for Naturalization was signed for the person in image 1. Nothing else on that image needs indexing. How do I index this correctly?

@NicoleAlldredge Please always include the Share Batch number with your question so that we can look at your specific image and provide the correct answer. The Share Batch number is found in the line with the name of the project. For example: MSHB-4EY. Thank you for providing this information in the future.

Hi @NicoleAlldredge check the Project Instructions for What to Remember About this Project - I think that might help. For Image 1, this is indexed correctly. For Image 2, the right hand page is covered by a blank side of the overlay. For Image 3, index only the information on the overlay for the left-hand page (Declaration of Intention) and index the right-hand page as a 2nd entry (Petition for Naturalization) For Image 4, I think that image is NED because left-hand is an oath of allegiance & right is the blank side of an overlay. For Image 5, index both pages - left is Decl of Intent & right is Petition ----- I hope I've helped --you're doing a great job of tackling these important records. I've tagged @Áine Ní Donnghaile to check my comments on this Wisconsin Project. Mary😎

@Áine Ní Donnghaile -- since not everyone in this Forum has access to view Wisconsin projects, I just hoped you might be a person who could so that you could verify whether I gave a correct answer to Nicole's questions ---- I tend to be a little wordy in my efforts to help ----have a great day Mary

It would be unusual not to index the Oath of Allegiance even though it is usually just a name and date. I don't have access to Wisconsin records, but, in the thousands of Naturalizations I've worked on, we have always indexed the oaths. I would just check under the What to Index section and make sure that they have omitted the Oath of Allegiance.

Thanks, Melissa - I did check PI and for Wisconsin Naturalizations, we do not index Oaths - I think it has to do with privacy issues and the FS-Wisconsin records contract. Have a Happy 4th!
