Hi everyone! I’m a descendant of Patience Brewster Prence and Gov Thomas Prence, through their daughter Rebecca Prence, who married Edmund Freeman III. Their daughter Patience Freeman married Joseph Burgess, who’s daughter Rebecca Burgess married Paul Harrelson. The volunteers of family search notified me regarding this connection, stating that I was the descendant of William Brewster, the original mayflower ppl. When I reached out to the mayflower society of New York, they discredited my lineage by saying that their 5th Generation Rebecca Burgess DID NOT marry Paul Harrelson, instead she married Edward Rose.

Why do African American Descendants meet with such discrepancies when searching our ancestors, especially when it links to European settlers in this continent???

Family Tree has at least 3 women named Rebecca Burgess who married a Paul Harrelson:

    GDSP-X23

    G6TG-Z1T

    L6V8-Z6H

And at least 1 women named Rebecca Burgess who married an Edward Rose:

    L5KR-RDP (Mayflower descendant)

Which of the first three couples are your ancestors, @Shakimono? And do you have historical records to show that your ancestor Rebecca Burgess was married twice?
