The number of article
I am indexing Caserta Italy State Civil records. On all of the indexing I have done so far the number is plainly typed (or written) however, this one region in Caserta wrote their own numbers next to the typed number. I looked in the Italian Ancestors Portal and found the town's index and their written numbers are what they used. Do I index the number printed on the form or index the number written next to it? Not sure where to ask this question.

That is one of those "use your best judgement" situations. If after looking at the reference images the numbers still don't make sense, then index the one you think is best.
We can't search on certificate numbers, so if you get the name and the remaining information correct, you will have given researchers the tools they need to find the image and see the two numbers.
