Reviewing North Carolina families - the birth state is always abbreviated this way: Nc - should I change it to NC or spell it out or leave it as is?

First - to get to the Census 1950 group, click on the FamilySearch Help tab at the top of this page. The first box has the 1950 Census group.

I think it does want the three letter month, but, hard to tell. You would think if they want zero, they would use the standard indexing verbiage, "if under 1 year, index zero", but they don't.

The field help is a little bit helpful, although to be really helpful it could say to ENTER THE FIRST THREE LETTERS OF THE BIRTH MONTH or ENTER ZERO IF UNDER 1 (whichever they want). Verify means nothing in this case. I can verify it, but, what am I supposed to do about it????

    Field Help for Age:

Verify the age in years as recorded in column 11.

If the person was less than a year old, verify the birth month.

If the box was empty, skip this field.

I just watched the video that the people in charge recorded a day or two ago. The answer is to enter the Month as Text. (Jan, Feb, Dec, etc...) You can see it in the US Census Group under the header of something about Updates as of June 10, 2022.

Since it is now June 11th and no one has answered your question, although not affiliated with Family Search, I'll give it a try. You might be working on the 1950 Census where the field help for birthplace says:

Verify the birthplace was spelled correctly as recorded in box 13.

Do not edit enumerator misspellings and type the birthplace as recorded.

    Do not expand abbreviations.

If the box was empty, skip this field.

The link to the Field Helps is at the end of the first sentence in the review box area.

If that doesn't help, you might want to ask again in the 1950 Census group page.

How do I find this group page? Here is another questions I have re Reviewing families on the 1950 census: Instructions say; "If the person was less than a year old, verify the birth month". If the youngest child has only a month listed - I put 0 for the age. Does it want me instead - to put the month?

thanks I tried to find the page you refer me to. There is no place where it says "Help". I finally did this: clicked the "?" symbol - then the "1950 census" - then "New Post". Is this correct?

Yes, I see your question about Granddaughter on the 1950 Census page.

I don't agree with the answer though since the Field Help for relationship says:

Verify the relationship was spelled correctly as recorded in column 8.

If the box was empty, skip this field.

I think they want us to fix these misspellings.
