Second marriages
Is there a reason why the FamilySearch program will not allow me to enter the previous marriage name of a female, to the second marriage?
I am registering both first and second marriages, along with the children for each marriage.
The children from the first marriage are integrated into the second marriage, thus the surnames of the children are different in the second marriage.
Registering the first marriage, along with the children from that marriage, no problem.
The female now has a second marriage and the previous married name is taken across to the new marriage. When I do this, the surname of the wife, changes to the same surname on both marriages, I cannot separate them. I either get 2 previous marriage surnames for both marriages (2 ellison's from first marriage, or 2 Walsh surnames for second marriage.
Is there a reason why I cannot have Ellison (single name) for first marriage and then Walsh (previous husband surname) for the second marriage?

As far as Family Tree is concerned, a person's name is fixed regardless of how many marriages they have. The recommendation is to enter a woman's maiden name as their primary name. You can add alternate names if you wish whether first names or surnames. Thus there is no need to change a person's name when you add a marriage.

Hope this clarifies the position.
