I'm trying again to correct an obvious ERROR in the record of my PATERNAL GRANDFATHER. He is listed as Living which is NOT CORRECT. HE IS DEAD. When I attempt to correct the error, I am told I cannot change my own record from Living to Dead!! Please help me to correct this record.
JAMES AUSTIN HURLEY, BORN JANUARY 31, 1899, DIED NOVEMBER 8, 1995 IN THE BRONX, NEW YORK. SEE HIS MEMORIAL ON FINDAGRAVE.... https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/6613882/james-austin-hurley
THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP! I'M SORRY TO BOTHER YOU WITH THIS. I'M JUST SO FRUSTRATED THAT I ABSOLUTELY CANNOT NEGOTIATE THE FAMILY SEARCH SOFTWARE TO CORRECT WHAT IS SO OBVIOUSLY INCORRECT. AND I DONT KNOW WHAT OCCURRED TO MAKE THE SOFTWARE SEE ME AND MY GRANDFATHER AS ONE IN THE SAME PERSON!!
Thanks for your time and patience!
I am GillenHurley

We are sending you a private message regarding your FamilySearch account. Please watch for the red dot on the bell in the upper right-hand corner of this website.

For information for the general community, the most common reason for this to happen, is when someone opens an account in FamilySearch and when asked to input his or her own information, decides to instead use someone else as the starting point for entering Family Tree. The program then considers that parent, grandparent, or friend to be the owner of the account.
The owner of an account cannot declare themself dead!
The way to prevent this is to follow directions properly when opening an account and when asked, put in your own information.
To see if your account has a problem, check under the Recents menu:
The first person on that menu must be you. If it is not, you have this problem and you should fix it.
To correct this, you have to go to the ID number for that person on the first line. Completely edit that profile so it has only your information. Create a new FamilySearch profile, which will have a new ID, for the person that top line used to be. Then edit family relationships as needed to get you with your proper spouse, parents, and children and to get the replacement profile with his or her proper spouse, parents, and children.
