Why was the tools menu on family tree. On the landscape page moved from the left side of the screen

The change appears to be related to a new First Ancestor tree view - which allows you to see descendancy from a 'first ancestor' generationally.
Yes, you may need to move the tree a little and get used to the tool's new location but they and the new features are all still there... The apparent reason it was moved over to the right is to standardize the tools/options for the Family Tree interface to be similar to the Search interface. For example, if you choose the First Ancestor view then click the tool/slider icon
(once you have created your first First Ancestor view) you will see that the First Ancestor options pane opens on the right - and includes the helpful option to Add (multiple) First Ancestor(s).
I would not mind if they were moved back to the left as you wish but can understand why they are now on the right-hand side.

Jonathan clearly appears to be referring to Landscape view. I wondered when someone would raise this issue - I didn't, because I saw no reason to complain and assumed (as is always the case) that no FamilySearch employee would come here to explain the reason.
So, firstly, is the reason as genthusiast suggests - or does anybody else have other theories?
Secondly, does it really make a difference? Surely, it used to get in the way even when it was at the top left of the page, if the chart consisted of many generations and there were lots of children / relationships in the most recent? That's the problem, once a feature has been altered, there is no visible comparison, so you can't prove anything, either way!

The Tree tools/options are moved to the upper right-hand for all Tree views now.
Opinion: With the ability to move and resize the Tree - it shouldn't matter too much. If the tools/options get in the way just resize/move the Tree til you can see what you would like...

Family Search development teams have been working on providing more consistency in the User Interface (UI) on ALL web apps across FamilySearch; from Tree, Search, Memories, Records, etc. It is an ongoing effort over a period of time to convert the web pages. Part of the new UI is that all controls(tools) for ZOOM, PAN, FILTERS and the dropdown selectors will be on the right side for Pedigree views and other features as well that use those same tools.
So yes, as noted, with the release of the "First Ancestor" pedigree view, which is built using all the new UI components, these tools have moved to the right for ongoing consistency across all of FamilySearch apps.
If you look at the "First Ancestor" pedigree view, you will also notice other subtle changes in the UI for the person tiles, colors, lines, and fonts. All part of the new web app UI plan for consistency and web technology updates.

Thank you for taking time to explain this.

The screenshot below shows that the "advantage" of having the toolbar on the right or left side of the page depends on the number of siblings in different generations. It particularly illustrates my point that if there are more siblings (and their spouses) in a more recent generation it will be the left side of the page that will be more crowded, so more useful to have the toolbar on the right. Vice versa, of course.
