Do the automatic updates install Windows 11 and is that what we want to do?

Family History Center Computers do NOT do automatic updates the STFHC-FHC must do manual updates on a regular basis to keep the computers updated. Family History Center Computers should NOT install windows11 nor are they authorized to use Windows11. For more information, please see the Operations guide and the help article on maintaining computers.

Ok, my specialist is going to take a look at the one we suspect may have Windows 11 installed on it, but I only talked to him on the phone about it, and he suspected it had updated to Windows 11, but may not have. Good to know that the updates will not download Windows 11. Thank you for that information.

Not sure you understood what I said. Windows updates are NOT done automatically. Windows updates are to be done manually by the STFHC-FHC from the Patron desktop as the updates do not require admin rights. Windows 11 upgrade could be done by anyone, but we do not support nor authorize it use in Family History Centers.

We strongly recommend the installation of the Support Tools on all Family History Computers as the Computer Information program that is added will give the immediate status of the Network, Software, Printer selection, auto tonner ordering status, and missing Windows updates as well as assigned Center ID and other insightful information. We recommend that the program be opened regularly to identify issues and the need for corrective action.

The Tools also add extra security modifications and the removal of non-used programs and offers that are embedded in the Microsoft software. It adds a Missionary Account for the exclusive use of the full-time missionaries.

You can find the FHC Support Tools on the Family History Center Technical Support community page or by contacting Family History Center Support directly.
