Standardized Event Place Issue
When I am correcting non-standardized event places sometimes I come across a place that is not listed in the standardized format.
Example: my brother lived in a town named Cameron, Missouri. This community is geographically in three neighboring counties. When I go to standardize it the only selection available is Cameron, Clinton, Missouri but he lived in Clinton, DeKalb, Missouri. Can this be corrected and is there a simple way for me to send in correction like this? I've included an image of the issue.
Thanks

We appreciate your question regarding standardized places. Here is an article from the Help Center that will give you instructions, including an imbedded link you can use, to add a place to the FamilySearch database of standardized places.
Best wishes.

Thank you, this is awesome.

Once you request an addition to the Places gazetteer, expect to wait months. Work on something else in the meantime. You might Follow (formerly Watch) all the affected profiles; on the web you can define a custom label to apply to profiles you follow. That way, once the new standard is defined you could easily find all the profiles to edit.

You can see information about places in the Places database. For Cameron this is the direct link: https://www.familysearch.org/research/places/?searchTypeaheadInputText=cameron%20missouri&text=cameron%20missouri
It does currently show two of the three options:
Two problems:
the DeKalb entry is marked as provisional so not available in Family Tree yet and it looks like its latitude and longitude are wrong.
Or did you just enter the request? That creates provisional entries that someone official has to go in and complete.

Yes, I put in the request yesterday.

Looks like you have your three choices now:
How long this takes can depend on where the place is, the complexity of the issue, and if anyone is working on the area.
