Can I help indexing this particular collection - how ?

I would like to help and index this collection, since it contains primarily folks with Finnish and some German origins.

Russia, Lutheran Church Book Duplicates, 1833-1885

Is it possible and what I need to do to get started? I have completed the basic training already.

Many thanks

Unfortunately we can't request that projects be indexed or work on them on our own. There are many steps to prepare collections for the indexing process. Some of the reasons are outlined in this knowledge article:

There are currently 2 Finnish projects to choose from - one is intermediate and the other advanced. Do not fear working on the intermediate project even though you have basic training. Just remember to read the project instructions, field helps, and examples for every project you work on since they vary. I don't know if they teach this in basic training, but, you can change the language on your Find a Project screen to only bring up the one you want.

    Best wishes and Happy Indexing!

    Hi Melissa,

Many thanks for your assistance and guidance. I went ahead and have just submitted my first batch 🙂. Hopefully at some point those Lutheran books become available too.

    Cheers!

One further point though:- those books I referred to are actually written mostly in German language. Only the names are Finnish.

    Hi Juha,

Another option to make the individuals listed in that collection findable by others is to enter them into the Family Tree on FamilySearch with a link to the document under Sources.

It's the long way round but they should then show up if someone does a search (of Family Trees)

    cheers

    Julia
