How do I fix information in my tree that has been changed by someone else?

Going back through my family tree, I have noticed changes to my tree . In one instance, someone, not a family member added two people to my family tree. They are transcription errors from the census, and they added them and listed them as deceased. When I tried to merge them with the actual people already in my tree, I was not allowed to merge a deceased person with a living person. In another instance, they changed the birth information on our grandfather. What they posted was the birth information of his second wife and they wiped out the correct information on him. They stated that they took this information from Find A Grave, which if they had actually done that, his information would not have stated what they posted. How can I correct this misinformation? Thank you in advance for any suggestions you might have on this subject.

Note: Lois Marie Eaton GMR1-W6P and Vida I Eaton GMR1-SQ5 are not real people and do not belong in this family Lois LX5G-WSS and Veta LX5G-WSL are the real people already in this tree.

    I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...

    Just in passing ...

    For starters ...

    Regarding, BOTH:

    (1) Lois Marie ( X5G-WSS ); and, Lois Marie ( GMR1-W6P ) ...

    and ...

    (2) Veta Irene ( LX5G-WSL ); and, Vida I. ( GMR1-SQ5 ) ...

'No', you DO NOT (and, of course, as you have found, you CANNOT) "Merge"/"Combine" them.

    So ...

    That Said ...

What you need to do is:

    For BOTH, Lois Marie ( GMR1-W6P ); and, Vida I. ( GMR1-SQ5 ) ...

▬ Go to, the "Death" record, select the 'Blue' "Edit' (on the 'Right')

.... Then this "Pop-Up" (ie. "Modal") 'Window', of "Edit Death", will appear ...

    image.png

▬ Select "Living"; and, Add a "Reason this Information is Correct"; and, then, "Save".

    image.png

    Now ...

    That Said ...

Please note (and, be aware), that there will be 'NOT' be an IMMEDIATE "Change".

What happens, is that that action (actually, "Triggers" ...) will Notify 'FamilySearch' "Support", that the 'Status', of this individual/person, MAY need changing, from 'Deceased", to "Living".

'FamilySearch' "Support", MUST investigate; and, provided, that they agree (which I am sure, that they will); then, the "Request", to change, the 'Status', from 'Deceased", to "Living", WILL, be ratified; and, actioned.

But, be aware, that such may take, a couple of "Days", to action - depending of the "Backlog", of such work.

Now, when that happens, Lois Marie ( GMR1-W6P ); and, Vida I. ( GMR1-SQ5 ), will DISAPPEAR, from "Public" view; and, be MOVED, to the "Private Spaces", of the User/Patron, who created her - ie. ONLY to be 'seen' (and, accessed) by them.

Here is a "Knowledge Article", in 'FamilySearch':

How do I change the status from deceased to living in Family Tree?

    Good Luck.

I hope, that this may help/assist, somewhat.

    Now ...

    For you Grandfather ...

Just go to his "Birth" details; and, "Edit" (ie. "Change"), to the CORRECT "Details", simple as that.

    Good Luck.

I hope, that this may help/assist, somewhat.

    Thank you Brett,

I appreciate your help with my problem, I looked for an answer before posting but did not see this helpful information. I have been working on another part of my tree, and just happened to go back to this section and notice the changes. I need to keep a better eye on my tree.

Again, thank you so very much.

Tip: If you find the following list useful, also "bookmark" the following list to your "favorites" or "bookmarks" on your device favorite links; you can click the saved bookmark anytime to check to see if new discoveries, adds, changes or fixes came in before the date of the weekly computer generated "weekly changes" list (upper right corner of your computer screen, the bell icon, when working in the collaborative Family Tree.)
