The restrictions appear to severely limit the usefulness of a shared family tree. If my profile stays private until I die, who will set my status to 'deceased'? What happens to information I enter about myself? Isn't it better to enable shared profiles with family members then attempt manual merges years and decades later? I'd love to see support added for shared living profiles.
Thank you,
Scott Ramsey

When I enter a people search and get a positive match, does this mean that this person is connected to my family tree?

Please check out this Help Center article: What is the purpose of FamilySearch and Family Tree?
The Search function in the Family Tree looks for anyone with that name who is deceased in the collaborative world-wide tree. It may or may not be the person for whom you are looking. You will need to check their vital information and relationships to others in the Tree and yourself to determine if this is the person for whom you are looking.

Hi Leslie. I found that Henry Fonda was connected to my family so I added him and his family to my family tree. He was a distant cousin on my mother's side. Weeks ago, I went to his profile and it doesn't show our connection. How can I find my connection to him and his family again?
Also, I don't remember how to find my GEDMatch ID. Can you help me with that as well?
We also may be family. Andreas Huber was my 5th or 6th great grandfather. He was eventually a neighbor to Daniel Boone.
Thank you for any help you can send me. Have a blessed weekend.
