How can I get a death date corrected?
I am researching a branch of the Kosiek family tree in Chicago IL. My great grandmother was Katarzyna/Katherine/Catherine Kosiek, nee Starzec. She was married to Andrej (Andrew) Kosiek. Andrej passed away in 1945 and his obituary references his late wife Katherine, along with his children, with names and spouses.
But SClark99 reports Katherine's death as September 1968 and links her to Andrej Kosiek (with his correct birth and death) and only one of her sons, Walter, again with the correct birth and death. It seems that the obituary for a different Catherine Kosiek (no reference to Starzec either) was the source (I have found this obit on Newspapers), but this obituary has completely different family members.
How do I get this corrected? I have also seen the same problem on Find a Grave with Russ C being the creator and I am trying to get that corrected also. Thank you for your help.

As long as you are sure with documentation to to show correct dates and places then store those documents in memories and then as long as the person's birth is greater than 110 years ago then just edit that information and save the change.

Hi Janet984,
a couple thoughts:
-Any user, including you, can edit
you are able to make edits to profiles....look for the "edit" link next to the vital or fact that needs changing and make any edits you can support with sources, proofs or a reason statement.
I'm a user of the collaborative website also like you. Noticed the Starzec name which is similar to some distant Nebraska Starzecs who married into my line.
The NE Starzecs are from Tarnov(w), Poland which is I believe could be a likely the "top candidate" for the birth location for your GGM Catherine and not "Tarnon, Poland" as listed on her Chicago, IL death record.
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:N3C1-BJD (Street address in death record matches census enumerations for your GGM)
-Fix Findagrave.com incorrect info. so its not repeated elsewhere
You may want to use the death and burial dates and locations from her death certificate (as no headstone photo is up at Findagrave.com yet) when submitting an edit request for the Findagrave.com memorial. As you likely are aware, after 21 days, if the memorial manager hasn't accepted your edit suggestions, the computer automatically accepts your suggested edit information. patience is a virtue at times.,..smile.
It is good that you are already trying to get that record corrected, for if not, likely others will repeat the same error of confusing "the other" Catherine Kosiek (wife of George) with your GMM.
-Detach any incorrect sources on your GGM's Profile G3ZV-GNS
Hope this gets you started....drop a note with any questions....others can also help with ideas...a very helpful user and volunteer moderate community you've posted to.
Cheers~
ps. will upload the obit to husband "Andrew"'s profile to maybe help others who might also contribute to the profiles in the future.
