Troubles Uploading Pictures

I've uploaded many pictures in the past, but I'm having troubles Uploading Pictures to persons in family search. It keeps on giving me the error "there is a problem on our end. Try again later". It's been going on for a week. Ive tried uploading via phone, computer, and using various browsers with no luck. Is it a problem on my end or are others having difficulty uploading photos?

I am having the same problem. I can't upload pictures. I get that error message too.

I am getting this when trying to upload photos. "An error occurred while uploading the file". I have been successful in the past.

Same here too. Just tried, multiple times, to upload a profile picture of an ancestor and kept getting the message, "an error occurred while uploading the file". Please help!!

I've tried multiple times to upload photos and keep getting 'an error occurred while...' Try many different times of day, photos are .jpg and not huge-- under 900KB.

I think the computer algorithm behaves in an arbitrary fashion. Sometimes, it allows the photo to pass; other times, no. It really gives false "protection."

Carla - did this ever get resolved? I'm still getting this same error

Our Specialty Department is working on photo issues again this weekend.
We have experimented this morning by adding a photo to both our gallery and memories on a person page. We used Chrome and Firefox. Both photos uploaded successfully. We hope this means these issues are being resolved.
We would always remind everyone that the first line of defense is to delete cookies and temporary files. We know we sound a little like a broken record with that one.😉

I just tried today to upload a picture. "Error occurred while uploading the file." I see it has been a problem in the past. Please get this fixed.

I used to be able to upload photos but can't 98% of time. Good, original family photos and documents to add to collection. Usually .jpg, about 800KB. I click on generic portrait icon, upload a photo, select from computer. Get '! An error occurred while uploading this file.'

I uploaded a photo in Stories; no problem. Cropped another photo in Photo Shop, saved it. I click on generic portrait icon, upload a photo, select from computer. Get '! An error occurred while uploading this file.' (SAA from BJ Lewis).
Same problem! This is the first time I've had this issue. Is this problem still being investigated?

I found a different thread that discussed difficulty uploading a portrait. Alan suggested that it might be easier to put a photo in Memories and then use that memory photo as the portrait. I tried to replace my own portrait using UPLOAD PHOTOS and got the same error as you. I can choose an existing picture in PHOTOS or SELECT FROM GALLERY and it changes just fine.

I had a similar problem today. I worked around it, as suggested, by uploading to Memories/Gallery. It works. :)

Oh come on JUST FIX IT ALREADY! It's not rocket science. No seriously, this has been an issue for how long? Over a year?

I'm having this problem also. Hoping it will be resolved soon.

UPDATE: There is a ticket with engineering on this that I am watching. When I get more info, I will pass it along.
SUGGESTIONS:
- The issue only seems to affect the New Person Page. Switch to the old version to upload the picture.
- Load the picture to memories first and then add to portrait. (As suggested in other comments.)
If either of these suggestions don't work for you, please post your experience and include as much detail as you can. There may be other issues going on that need a different engineering ticket.
Sorry for issues you are having!

Have been trying to upload photo's to persons profile several times over the last few months, there doesn't seem to be an answer to this using either the new or the older charts.
Hope to have an answer to the problem soon.

In attempting to upload a photo for a person (by clicking on the circled portrait icon on the Person page),
the upload failed on the "New Person Page", but worked on the "previous version" page.

We are making a change to the categories in our community. This change has been requested for a long time and we are so excited to bring it to you. The temple category will only be viewable by members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who must be logged in to see it. This change will be effective April 10th by end of the day.

Sometime during the next week, the FamilySearch Help Center (Help and Learning) redesign will be launched for 100% of FamilySearch users. This change is occurring because the technology used for the logged-in version of FamilySearch.org has become outdated. The yellow banner will discontinue but you will still be able to go back and forth between the new and old versions by clicking on the “Try It!” link below the blue bar. (See the image below.)
Then when you want to return to the old version, click on "Return to the Old Version"
The feedback button will remain, and we ask that you give us specific and detailed actionable comments. Please refrain from just complaining if there is something that you do not like, we really look at all the feedback but need specifics to be able to take your suggestion into consideration. You most likely will not get a response that your feedback was received but please know that every comment is viewed, considered, and implemented if possible.
We suggest that you use the newly redesigned page and get comfortable with it as quickly as possible because at some point in the future, the redesign will be the only option and we will not be able to revert back and forth as we are now able to do. Rest assured that nothing has gone away, just put in its proper place for ease of discovery as well as to allow future upgrades with minimal disruption and more flexibility.

Yesterday I successfully uploaded some images to Memories. Later images have been stuck at 99%, either as single or multiple uploads.

I just tried it on a couple photos. Seems to be fine now. Just be aware that all photos will go through a preliminary screening process to check for guideline compliance, causing large files to take longer to process.

Today I was able to add a different document to memories, but the others still get stuck at 99%. They are compliant with guidelines, they just never get 100% uploaded.

Unable to upload a photo. Person appeared in tree for years, but has just died. Updated details, but am unable to upload photo. iPad OS 15.7.5, iPad Air 2. I’ve never had a problem previously.
Also, I cannot find the “previous version” option any longer.
Additional info: I tried to upload a photo to person page on the app, but that won’t work, either. In both instances I am attempting to load the photo from the Photos app on my iPad.

I can only remark to the feelings of many people that are not happy with the new Memories set up and I am one of those. It is hard to add pictures, it is not an improvement and feel the previous program was excellent. Several have just stopped using it as they feel it is so confusing. I am a consultant and feel that I cannot teach or help people with memories as it just does not work. I have also found tags missing since the program changed.
Where can I find step by step information on Memories. If I could get some simple information I would be more than happy to try it, but I feel my hands are tied on helping others, until I can learn what steps to take to make it work. It has been my favorite part of the Research and working on Family Search. I need to learn this, and cant seem to make it work. I was so pleased with the previous program.

I finally found that the document had previously been uploaded to my Gallery for another person. I would have expected to see a Duplicate File message, rather than it getting stuck at 99%.

I must be honest I do really like the new Help and Learning Centre. I find it much easier to use and, importantly, it looks interesting and fun instead of just uninviting and boring. One big ask and point brought up by many people I know is "when are you going to change that question mark in the circle to something more inviting?" Something that invites people to click on it and want to investigate. You would be surprised at the amount of people who barely even see it never mind never click on it. Under that question mark in the circle is a veritable gold mine of information, learning tools and just downright fun, there is something for everyone and you virtually hide it. Why? Surely you want patrons to find it.

Thank you for your feedback@Cedar Kedar! We all agree with you as well and are working our best to make some changes along the same line as what you suggested.
