how can I unmerge a merge that I can't find?
I have an ancestor Eli Clark (jr)1804 son of Eli Clark(1768) and Mary Tiffany Smallage(1780). He has at some time been merged with a Calvin B Clark. Eli Jr. is in the genealogies multiple times under the numbers 9HPV-G2Z, 9Hpv-Gr6, 9XK5-SH4, M7XC-SB2 to list a few, all of these numbers take you to Calvin B LZZD-9M1. This changes his birthdate to 1806 in New york instead of Mass where the rest of the family is. If you look at the notes you can see others also believe there is no records of Eli and Mary having a child named Calvin. I think at some point they got merged incorrectly, but I can't find the merge. I hesitate to re-add Eli because I think that will just be more confusion. The temple work was done 29 May 1885, sealed to his parents 20 Sep 1894. I would like to seperate Eli and Calvin and put them in their correct familys but I can't find Eli to restore him. Eli did marry Nancy Root as it show in Calvin's page. Any suggestions where to find one of the original Eli's? FS also had another Eli Clark born 1806 in New York, incorrect spouse to be mine. Another Eli B Clark born in 1810 (GQGL-MCM) again incorrect spouse.

If you have searched through all the change logs for all these ID numbers, then that means the the incorrect merge probably took place in New Family Search, the predecessor to Family Tree. If that is the case, the merge cannot be reversed. You will have to create a new record for Eli, Jr, straighten out all the data, get proper sources on there, then ask support to look at the underlying ordinance data for Calvin and move any that was actually for Eli to your new record for Eli. Only support can do that.
