I know that if there is only a a 2 number year, it is possible to discover what year might help discover what the entire year might be. In this batch the indexer has chosen the year 1880 from the written entry of 80. I have have looked through the before and after batches to see if I could find anything that would prove the indexed record is correct using 1880 instead of just 80. Is there anything that someone can tell me if I should change every entry to the 2 digit code or keep the year in the 1800's. This seems like a silly question, but just want to keep it correct.

Hi Al.
Like you, I saw no evidence on the image that the year should be 1880 vs another century. So you need to leave that decision to the Researcher and correct the indexed value to the written 2-digit year. You can easily and quickly do that by using the “copy forward to ALL like fields” icon, which is the 6th from the right.
First - notice that most of the year values should be 80. From entry 85 onwards they should be 81.
In case you don’t know, or for those who don’t, here are the steps. (1) Go to the first entry and change that Year field from 1880 to 80. (2) Click on that field and then on the “copy forward icon.” Now ALL your entries have 80 in that year field - not quite what you want. So (3) go to the year field in entry #85, and change that 80 to its proper value of 81. (4) Click on the “copy forward” icon again. Now, from entry #85 to the end, that Deed Year field will have the proper value of 81.
You don’t need to work in Column Entry mode, that icon works in any mode. But here is how the result should look in column mode. I circled the transition. Good luck.

Thanks for your reply. After I wrote about change ALL the years, I realized I could just use the copy forward like you suggested and quit whining!

I also thank you for making the correction. You wouldn't believe how many indexers are not following the directions and this means the reviewer has to go through and check to see if there is anything that will indicate whether the year should be changed or not and if there is no indication, then the reviewer has to change it all back to the single digit. Even though it isn't a difficult job, it is one that can be a royal pain to do over and over again.
