Have a copy of the book "William Bowne of Yorkshire, England, and his Descendants" by Miller K. Reading, M.D., published in 1903. Would like to ask the Community, who have researched the genealogy in this book, their opinion of the reliability of the stated facts -- reliable, somewhat reliable, or too hard to prove. Thank you. JMG.

You should expect all of the above. Some parts will be spot on, other parts will be so-so, and a few parts will be entirely made up.

By the way, Bowne is a surname registered with the Guild of One-Name Studies.

Thank you so much for your response. Not only did you answer my question, but you introduced me to the subject of the Guild of One-Name Studies. I will definitely pursue it for my Bowne tree. Bowne was the maiden name of my maternal grandmother. She was born and lived her life in New Jersey. Nellie Bowne is listed in the book "Genealogy of the Warne Family in America" by Rev. George Warne Labaw as a descendant of Thomas Warne (as well as the Browns, Burlews, etc.) All those farmers apparently appreciated the New Jersey soil. Thanks, again. Joan
