I had the wrong grandfather on my tree, there is a whole branch that stems from this, that is incorrect. When I tried to delete him, and others, I keep getting delete unavailable.

Please can you help.

Shirley, the whole point is that you do not have "your own tree" here. It's everyone's tree, and there's only one of it.

    Welcome to the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum.

    I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...

    Just in passing ...

That is right, you most likely, will NOT, be able to "Delete", the individuals/persons ...

    But ...

    That Said ...

What you actually need to do, is most likely, simply "Remove", one individual/person, from a "Relationship".

    And ...

Sounds, most likely, the wrong Grandfather, for a "Couple" Relationship.

Here are a couple of "Knowledge Articles", in 'FamilySearch':

    [ "Couple" Relationship ... ]

A person in Family Tree has the wrong spouse

    https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/a-person-in-family-tree-has-the-wrong-spouse

    https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/a-person-in-family-tree-has-the-wrong-spouse

    And, just in case ...

    [ "Parent-Child" Relationship ... ]

How do I correct parent-child relationships in Family Tree?

    https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/how-do-i-correct-parent-child-relationships-in-family-tree

    https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/how-do-i-correct-parent-child-relationships-in-family-tree

    Good Luck.

I hope, that these may help/assist, somewhat.

Brett gave you the links to the two "how-to" articles on deleting or editing relationships, but here's some explanation of why you can't just delete profiles. FamilySearch's Family Tree is a shared, communal endeavor, with the lofty goal of having one and only one profile per deceased person. Any profile -- unless it's invented from whole cloth -- represents someone's relative, somewhere. If it turns out that it's just not your relative, then you should detach the incorrect relationship(s), instead of trying to delete someone else's family member.

It's up to you whether you deal any further with the detached family (that isn't yours). If it was attached in error because of very similar names and dates, then you may be able to prevent future frustration by researching the other family and attaching it to the correct descendants, but if they're recent enough to still be living, then you may need to just leave the branch floating for someone else to find.

I find it hard to believe you can't delete someone just from your own tree and that others could not pick them up again for their trees.

Also I would hate to leave someone just floating in my tree not attached properly.

Anyway I will try to delete some and see how I get on.

    Thank you for the explanation.

You cannot delete a profile if another contributor has edited it, but you can detach it from your family. Detaching achieves your purpose perfectly.

Detaching is also the correct action to take. No one will be upset; on the contrary, some other contributors likely will be pleased, because that person who isn't your grandfather has a whole other family attached to him.
