Why was my Grandfather Dorus Earnest Peterson's name changed to Dorius.

Although some records do spell his name that way, they are an incorrect spelling of his name done by someone other than Dorus himself. He was named after his maternal grandfather, Dorus Burzee Warner. He passed that name to his son Clarion Dorus Peterson and My father passed that name to my brother Dean Dorus Peterson. I knew my grandfather personally, so I am going on personally known family facts. His name should be corrected and Dorius be used as an alternate name not the primary name.

Dorus is a family name.

Hi, thanks for your question. Your Grandfathers name was changed by another user of FamilySearch back on 23rd July 2021.

There are no alternate names set up, so you can add Dorius as an Alternate name and put Dorus as the main name, ensuring you correctly cite the reason you are making this change. This will allow other users of FamilySearch to see the two names that your ancestor appears by in the records and also the reason why Dorus is the correct name to use.

Here are the instructions on how to add the alternate names.

    I hope this helps you!
