In the "find" situation I type in the individual persons number for Nicolaas Van Baaren which is L6R3-FWD and the result comes up with the same name Nicolaas Van Baaren but the number against his name is K88F-KLF ?????? This has happened a number of times today and is quite disconcerting would you agree? will you let me know if there is something i am doing wrong please.
This is occuring as I am doing this work on my wife's family line Catharina Maria van der linden Nee Riethoff

Thank you for your question. You are not doing anything wrong. The system is working correctly. The ID: L6R3-FWD was merged on 7 August 2017 by another user into K88F-KLF. You can view this by looking at the merges in the Changelog: https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/changelog/K88F-KLF/merges
When an ID is merged into another ID, you can still search for the old ID via the "Find" feature and the system will return the current and active ID for that person.
