I want to verify that the Grantee section has been interpreted correctly by the indexer

Can someone please look at this batch US, New York, Erie—Index to Land Records, Grantees, 1630–1975 [Part B][M32R-NJC].

the first line appears to be The New York State Electric And Gas Corporation and the 2nd line is The New York Telephone with the same Grantor as the first line

But because there is a line connecting the first and second lines and then the "Copy" beneath the 2nd item, the indexer has only put the New York Telephone in as the Grantee. My question is that correct or is both lines carried down with the "do".

Thanks for your help. This one was interesting trying to figure out. But I could see either side and call it good. Now someone will tell me there is a a third side! 😊

I believe you would index both utilities as written. These are probably easements to put up telephone and electric lines.

Very interesting! I would put both utilities on as the Grantor and carry it down for all the do's. It gets even trickier once you get past the NY Central railroad. Good luck with that! You got this!

I think that if the clerk had intended to ditto only the New York Telephone Co, he easily could have written that once more, by itself, and then dittoed from there, making that intent clear. I, too, would consider it ditto for both companies and make two entries for each transaction, one for each company.

I have been reviewing predominantly the New York Erie land records and I, too, agree with the two previous responses that you should index both utilities. The clerk made it clear when he or she drew the line around both utilities and then placed the ditto marks beneath both. If the clerk wanted to only repeat the telephone company, he or she would not have done this. If I were to receive this batch for my review, that is the reason I would have for making sure it was done this way.

So Al, do you know how to use the icon to insert new entries? It looks like this and you can decide if you want the new entry before or after the current one.

Just use the icon with the plus sign next to it.
