Australia, Fremantle—Inward Passenger Lists, 1890–1911. entries for children

In reviewing should I strictly follow the guide lines and remove entries for children that are not named on the document? The indexer has assumed that the children have the same surname as the person listed. They could be grandchildren or wards of the person traveling and have a totally different surname.

Or should I just go along with the indexers assumption, assuming that the researcher will sort it out?

There are 2 examples of this situation on this small batch.

Yes remove entries for unnamed individuals, including children.

If the children were not named (no given name and no surname) they don’t get an entry. See #1 below. We wouldn’t make an entry with no names in it.

And if listed with just a given name we don’t assume their name is the same as the person with them - unless some sort of “blank space = ditto” or other ditto construction indicates they do share the last name. See #2 below.

Per the Instrucyions for that project.

    (1) From the Given Names Field Help (purple question mark):

If the given names were not recorded or were written as a variation of the word "unknown," press Ctrl+B to mark this field blank.

    (2) From the Surname Field Help:

Do not assume a surname from the surnames of others mentioned in the document.

If the surname was not recorded or was written as a variation of the word "unknown," press Ctrl+B to mark this field blank.

Please share the batch code (in brackets after the project name) so we can take a peek at the image and project instructions. Thank you!
