What is "Do & Do" stand for?
I'm in Ireland in 1849, baptism record, and have "Do" entered for a last name and "Do & Do" entered for parents names. It seems to me that the "Do & Do" means something like "ditto," and was written as shorthand to refer the previous parent names? Is this accurate?
This is a record where the child's first name and last name is written, then the fathers first name, then the mothers first and last name (maiden) are written.
Thanks for the help in advance.

Hello,
Yes, you are correct. "do" stands for "ditto" and means you just repeat the name on the line above for each "ditto".
I hope this helps,
Hilary.
