How does one add an adopted child to their tree. How do we indicate her birth parents? My cousin and her husband adopted her husband's granddaughter. We want to add her to the tree but are not sure how we indicate she is adopted and if we should put her birth parents on the tree also. Can anyone tell us. Thank you so much.

Step 1: add the child to the adoptive parents the normal way.

Step 2: In the Family Members section of the child's profile Details page, click the pencil-in-box icon to the right of the child's name on the right (under Parents and Siblings). This brings up the Parent-Child Relationship edit pane. On it, there is a button below each parent's name: "Add Relationship Type". Use that to set the type to Adoptive for each parent.

Step 3: just below the label "Parents and Siblings", there is a button: "Add Parent". Use that to add the biological parents. You can set the relationship type to biological, but it will not be displayed, because it is the default.

You can add all the information. I have an adopted relative who has 3 sets of parents on her record: adopted parents, birth mom and her husband, birth dad and his wife. I change the preferred couple depending on what I am researching for this relative (which means the adopted parents are never the preferred couple). There is lots of editing on this screen shot as most involved are living and I have not added any step siblings as it doesn't serve much of a purpose at the moment. BUT, all half siblings can be added and properly associated with their birth parents. One slight complaint I have in the relationship options is the relationship I have to use between adopted relative and each of birth parents' spouses. "Step" is the best option, but that tends to imply that there was an acquaintance between step child and step parents (which there wasn't). BUT, I don't lose any sleep.
