Connecting Alda Jean
Hi! I am new to this group and relatively new to family history research. In fact, I am currently enrolled at BYU-I, taking beginning classes in Family History. With this request for your assistance, I am attempting to complete a class assignment and my first personal family history research project at the same time. I am the only child of Charles Marble Rifenbery (Born 6 Sept 1914 in Sayre, Bradford, PA /Died 1 April 1981 in Clearfield, Davis UT) and Patsy Naomi Morgan (Born 29 Oct 1928 in Sheridan, Sheridan WY / Died 1 May 2007 in Maryville, Blount TN). My father was previously married, fathering two prior children with his first wife Peggy I. Smith (Born in 1916 in Washington State? and deceased, possibly in the 1980s). A daughter, Alda Jean, was born to the couple in 1940. On the 1940 census, she was reported as being 1/12 old. I located a Find A Grave record for Alda Jean indicating that she died in 1944. In order to complete the family group sheet and initiate ordinance work to connect Alda Jean to the family, I need more complete information for Peggy, specifically complete birth and death dates and a complete death date for Alda Jean. My father was active Navy at the time of the marriage and the birth of the children, Joseph (for whom I have information) and Alda Jean. I believe that the family was living on base in Bremerton for most of the time the couple was married. Just to mix things up, there seems to be some disagreement within the family about the spelling of our last name. I am thinking that a marriage certificate for my dad's first marriage and a birth certificate for my sister might provide the information I need? Any assistance or guidance you can provide will be most appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider my request.
