For the Surname Linard, there is a line for given name. The indexer took this as a "ditto" mark. I have yet to see "ditto" represented this way. Would like to know if this mark in fact does represent "ditto". Thank you

It is hard to know what recorders are thinking sometimes but I am with you on this. I think the given field should be marked blank. This is just my opinion though. You will have to use your own judgement on this.

I agree with @annewandering. Leave the Given Name blank.
