Ancestors missing from Roots Tech "Relative Finder"
The entire maternal branch of my mothers side of my tree is not being listed by Roots Tech Relative Finder. The paternal side of my mother's family begins with her grandfather and goes back from there. But the entire maternal side is missing. Yet it displays correctly in all views on Family Search, so I know it is there. Why is it only missing from the Relative Finder???

Right, O.K. ... "RootsTech" 2022
There is NO ... Roots Tech Relative Finder ...
I think that you mean ... "Relatives at RootsTech" ...
As such ...
IF, that is the case; THEN, please be, advised; and, aware, that you many NOT have an (Living") "Relatives" (ie. Users/Patrons), from your Mother's side (ie. "Line"), who are 'On-Line', at "RootsTech" 2022.
You will ONLY 'see', those ("Living") Users/Patrons, who have "Registered" for "RootsTech" 2022; AND, have ALSO "Accepted", to be part of "Relatives at RootsTech".
Hence, WHY, you may NOT 'see', ANY reference, to those from you Mother's "Line".
Just my thoughts.
I hope, that this may help/assist, somewhat.

If there is not a living person using Relatives at RootsTech who is related to you through those ancestors, you will not see those ancestors listed in the ancestor drop down box.

Welcome to the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum.
I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...
Just in passing ...
And, just for clarification ...
Question: Are you referring to, 'FamilySearch" "RootsTech" (2022); or, (BYU) "RelativeFinder"?
Please advise.
As, 'FamilySearch" "RootsTech" (2022); and, (BYU) "RelativeFinder", are two totally different things.
'Thank You', in advance.

My question refers to the one on the home page of Family Search's Roots Tech 2022. I have used Family Search for 6-7 years and have an extensive tree on both sides of my family for some time now. When I view my own record, which only I can view (since I am living) It shows every branch of my family extending outward from me. And on the Roots Tech Relative Finder, ALL of my known ancestors on my dad's side are listed. But on my mom's side, her paternal line starts from her grandfather, NOT from her father, and her mother's line is completely missing... NO ancestor in her mother's lines appears in the ancestor list of the Roots Tech Relative Finder. Even though they are all documented, sourced, properly linked, and appear in a fan chart with me at the center... her maternal line is completely ABSENT from my list of ancestors on the Relative Finder. WHY IS THIS, and HOW DO I FIX IT???

Note: I also created the record for my mother while she was living, as she only recently passed (abt 8 months ago). When she died, I updated her record with her death information, so it should be visible to all from that day forward. Does my creating her record while she was living have any connection to an entire branch of her family not appearing on the ROOTS TECH Relative Finder??? EVERYONE on my dad's side appears.. and all but the last generation of mom's paternal side appears. But her ENTIRE set of MATERNAL ANCESTORS are missing. Please explain why this occurs, and how do I fix it?

Brett, I think you may have hit on the correct answer here. It appears I am seeing EVERY ancestor on dad's side listed because one FIRST COUSIN on dad's side (besides me) did register for Roots Tech, AND on inspecting many of the ancestors on dad's side, SHE is the ONLY relative listed. Also, I see NO ancestor on either side with ZERO relatives listed. All are at least ONE (or higher). Based on this, it DOES seem that none of mom's closer ancestors got listed because NO relative that registered for Roots Tech on her side appears to be closer to me than a 5th or 6th cousin. Thus, that is where my ancestors on mom's side start to get listed in the list of "common ancestors" that registrants share with me. To get ALL of a parent's close ancestors listed in the selection box, it appears that having a single first cousin is sufficient to tick all of them. But a 5th or 6th cousin will only tick ancestors farther away, and NOT tick any closer to me. Thank you for helping me to see that.

It also appears that this "Relative Finder" will not display any ancestors farther away than 5th great grandparents, no matter how many registrants for Roots Tech are related to them. Doing a search on my last name, I learned that can display registrants with common ancestors farther away from me, showing some 8th and 9th cousins. But I can not do searches on any common ancestors farther than 5th great grandparents, as nothing farther than that will appear in the selection box. Thus the only way to display those... is by searches on surnames only.

FYI
'No', the "Relatives at RootsTech" WILL display MORE, well past one's x5th Great Grandparents ...
"Relatives at RootsTech" ONLY displays the FIRST x300 ("Living") Users/Patrons, who have "Registered" for "RootsTech" 2022; AND, have ALSO "Accepted", to be part of "Relatives at RootsTech", after that, the "System" will NOT, "List" any subsequent ones.
IF, you "Change" the "Default", of "All Location", to a SPECIFIC "Country"; THEN, you may 'see' well past, your x5th Great Grandparents.
And ...
You can even "Change" to "By Ancestor"; which, may give you even more scope.
My "List" was OVER the x300 in next to now time.
But ...
That Said ...
I also know how to 'play around'; and, I even use that "Search", to actually, 'look' for those, that I know use 'FamilySearch',
I have found many, 8th; 9th; 10th; 11th; 12th; 13th; 14th, "Cousins"; and, 'Messaged' them.
Particularly, those that I know; and, some that I do not.
"Technically" the LIMIT, in 'FamilySearch', would be about some x15 or so Generations.
Certainly, not just your x5th Great Grandparents.

I have MANY "Contacts", on my "Maternal" Line.
Whereas ...
I DO NOT have so many "Contacts", on my "Paternal" Line.
But ...

At least, I do have some.
My Wife is almost 50/50.

Brett, I think you misunderstood what I was saying. I was NOT saying Relatives at Roots Tech would not show me registered cousins with common ancestors past 5th great grandparents. I have already seen registrants that are 8th and 9th cousins to me. What I was saying was that 5th great grandparents APPEAR to be the last set of great grandparents shown in the SELECTION BOX when doing a SEARCH by common ancestor. In that SELECTION BOX, I have NOT seen any ancestor higher than a 5th great grandparent. And since a first cousin appears to trigger the showing of ALL ANCESTORS on my paternal side UP TO, BUT NOT BEYOND our common 5th great grandparents, I was inferring that the SELECTION BOX for a search by common ancestor will never show anything beyond a 5th great grandparent. NOT that I would never see more distant cousins in OTHER search RESULTS. Got it? I was talking about the SELECTION BOX, while you are talking about other search RESULTS.

Right, O.K. ...
That explain things, a little more clearly ...
It was (and, is) just the, "Terminology"; and, "Context", you use.
So ...
That Said ...
You were referring to that "By Ancestor" option.
And, the fact, that yours ONLY goes back to (ie. as far as) your x5th Great Grandparents.
Whereas, at least, mine go back to my x8th Great Grandparents.
Again, that is also BECAUSE of the LIMIT of x300 ("Living") Users/Patrons.
IF, the LIMIT was much GREATER x300; THEN, we would be able to go back much further.
The problem/issue with have such being GREATER than x300, is that it would SLOW the "System(s)", down to a (literal) CRAWL.
And, that is BOTH, "RootsTech"; and, "Family Tree", of 'FamilySearch", due to the colossal amount of Users/Patrons, being 'On-Line', ALL at the SAME 'Time'; because, of "RootsTech"; and, also, them ALL trying to do the SAME thing, at the SAME 'Time'.
Regardless ...
It certainly has been, "Fun"; and, "Interesting" ...
Plus, at least, we still have a little while, to use "Relatives at RootsTech", after "RootsTech"; BEFORE, it is Switched "Off".
And, even, a little longer again; BEFORE, we loose the "Contact List".

@Perry Trost, if it makes you feel better, I have zero relatives at RootsTech. (And BYU claims I have no relatives, period. Or that's how their wording comes across, anyway.)

And Relatives at RootsTech shows that I have 33,377 relatives, with 33,376 of them being from my maternal branch.
And I have many connections through 6th greats.

hi perry- did you ever figure this out and resolve it? i am also only seeing paternal line and i have significant maternal line ancestry that i am quite sure many people at roots tech are related to and it is just not showing.

@HMM13 There is a 2024 thread on this topic. It really depends on where your ancestors originated and when. Also, whether your living relatives are active on FS and if they opted in or out of Relatives at RootsTech.
