Handwriting Help - Australia, Albany—Inward Passenger Lists, 1873–1924 [M3KF-Z4S]

Hi, I'm having some trouble deciphering some handwriting (again!).

I'm in Australia, so many of you may not be able to access the batch.

The entry on the right hand page, 7th from the bottom of page, surname of Grop(?) (as well as the 2 entries starting 4 down from that one) - it looks like Mifs or similar. Does this stand for Miss, or something else?

@PatrickCox6 Yes, what appears to be Mifs is actually "Miss Gross", you'll also note the Mr & Mrs with the "rs" written in superscript -- all 3 of these are pretty common to the time period.

If you're able to take a screen shot of just the part of the name in question, maybe we can give you a hand. Not sure if that is allowed though since we aren't able to view the batch itself.

And the entry second from the bottom of that page? Mrs & ? (looks like Mift!).

Yes! I see this a lot with names that have 2 s. ss looks like a cursive (lowercase) f and then an s. This recorder was a bit sloppy with the Mr and Mrs and Miss. it’s always good that we can ask each other. Some of his Miss look like Mip. But I see a Mr and Mrs Grimwade and then below is the “ ditto marks to repeat the name above. So it may be their daughter(?) below them, Miss Grimwade. 😊

Yes, it all makes life interesting! I did work out the Grimwades, but what about the entry below them?
