In New York, United States, there are two villages named Newark:

* Newark, Newark Valley, Tioga, New York, United States

* Newark, Arcadia, Wayne, New York, United States

See https://www.familysearch.org/research/places/?searchTypeaheadInputText=newark,%20New%20York&text=newark%2C%20New%20York

and

https://www.familysearch.org/en/wiki/Newark,_New_York

FamilySearch preferentially selects the Newark in Tioga County.  Example:  https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QGP4-D2BL

Newark, New York now has a disambiguation page on the Research Wiki:  https://www.familysearch.org/en/wiki/Newark,_New_York

What also seems needed here is, in addition to a (corrected?) disambiguation step in the volunteer indexing (or automated indexing and volunteer review) process, is a systematic review in the the Improve Placenames project of all instances of Newark, New York in historical records and on Family Tree profiles.

Thank you for reporting this Inaccurate Place standardization. I am able to replicate the problem as reported. This is being forwarded to another department for further review and action. Thank you.
