Indexing is under Get Involved on FamilySearch.org
Hello Indexing Friends,
As of 8:00 a.m. (Mountain) on FamilySearch.org, you will notice that the Indexing heading now shows as Get Involved. When you click Get Involved, you will see Indexing and a few other options. These were adjustments made to enable volunteer opportunities, including indexing and others, be grouped together in one place. You can learn more about Get Involved in the Get Involved FamilySearch community category. Indexing still has the same functions and features, but you will now find Indexing as a subheading of Get Involved. Some of the indexing screens have an updated look-and-feel, too.
Purposes for the Get Involved experience include: 1) Providing an improved volunteer experience, with mobile device options; 2) Focusing on a more personalize and meaningful volunteer experience with ways to select projects and records that are important to you and your family; 3) Involving beginners by providing easy and fun volunteer projects, like name review; 3) Offering greater variety and worldwide expansion in volunteer activities. There are updated knowledge articles (KA) in the FamilySearch Help Center with more coming.
We hope that you’ll try out the Get Involved app and web experience, share it with your family and friends, and continue indexing. Your significant contributions of time and talents help so many people worldwide discover more about their families. Get Involved broadens the opportunity and scope for more people to get involved and make more records available to discover, gather, and connect our families. Thank you for the incredible work you do and volunteer service you render!

You say, "...you will notice that the Indexing heading now shows as Get Involved" and, "...you will now find Indexing as a subheading of "Get Involved".
The purpose of "Get Involved" appears to relate to highlighting volunteering opportunities, not to "relegate" the "Indexing" category, so it becomes a subsection of "Get Involved". If that is the intention of the administrators of "Community", this still hasn't been implemented. Hopefully, this change is not planned, as it could lead to quite some confusion.

I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...
Just in passing ...
I am assuming, that you are an "Employee", of 'FamilySearch'.
[ At least, I hope that you are ... ]
I TRULY hope, that LABEL of "Get Involved", WILL revert SIMPLY back, to the LABLEL of "Indexing", ASAP.
[ I suppose, after, "RootsTech 2022" ... ]
I really hope, that such "Change", was just some peoples, thought processing and decision making, just for "RootsTech 2022"; and, NOT; as, a PERMANENT "Change".
MANY; Many; many, of us, are so tired, of "Change", just for the sake of "Change" ...
There is NO "Valid" Reason, to have "Changed" the LABEL, of "Indexing", to "Get Involved".
Such "Change" was TOTALLY "Unnecessary".
PLEASE; Please; please ...
"Changed" the LABEL, of "Get Involved", BACK to "Indexing", ASAP.
"Change", just for the sake of "Change", is NOT necessary.
Furthermore ...
"Indexing", should NOT, be CONFALTED, with OTHER "Volunteer" Activities.
"Indexing", should ALWAYS be, separate; and, distinct, from OTHER "Volunteer" Activities.
I hope, that OTHERS agree ...
Humbly submitted for your IMMEDIATE, information; attention; and, consideration.
'Thank You' in advance.
Your cooperation, would be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards
MAY THE LORD BLESS YOU IN THIS IMPORTANT WORK
Yours Faithfully,
Brett

I tried to work on my advanced batch (Non conformist chapels Lancashire) but access was unavailable via Safari and Google Chrome. Tried various routes for 30 minutes but the OOps! message appeared. Hopefully this is a temporary teething problem? Thanks Lynn

Screenshot still undergoing "moderation", but assume you see the same from "your" Community home page.

Sorry for the misunderstanding on my part. I now notice that Jana had provided the link to the page that you illustrate above. Thought it was a strange idea to make "Indexing" a sub-section of "Get Involved" on this forum. I'll put it down to my age - I use that as an excuse for everything else!

In the Get Involved, "Try It" category of "Review Names" https://www.familysearch.org/records/get-involved/my-opportunities
I have chosen either Illinois names to review or Massachusetts names and each time, the documents are from Utah. I am unsure of where to report these errors. I clicked on the feedback tab which did not respond.

I've been indexing and reviewing for many years thinking that I am contributing to the whole purpose of Family Search so I don't like the language " want to do more than just index" as if there's some sort of hierarchy in doing good --- I do what I'm good at --dependability and accuracy and yes I want to "do more" but I'd rather FS concentrate on getting the process right - with better instructions and better examples ---- change is not always "good" or "better" and this newest format seems to imply that clicking more buttons will somehow make things better --- well enough of my well-intentioned opinions --- I'm a Pisces and we adapt - so I will make the best of things with a smile 😎😎

I think this is really cool! I usually only do indexing on a computer but this looks like it would make mobile an option now for me, and doing the reviewing on the app will make it so much easier to keep going whenever i want to, especially if i dont have time to sit down at a computer for an extended session of indexing :D Thanks so much, I think this is a great update.

I adore the new Reviewing area. It's fast, simple, easy for me (I read cursive) and highly addictive. I've done more than 250 names in less than an hour. The thing is that none of this shows up on my ward indexing area for Reviewing, so does none of it "count?" I like doing it so I will keep doing it, but I'd love my efforts to help my ward's statistics in some way. Same as for standardizations. I've done those every day for months even though they don't count in statistics.

Reviewing names and standardized places isn't the same as indexing and reviewing a batch of records and shouldn't "count" the same. I think the intent and purpose of preserving records and genealogy research was never meant to be simply statistics and competition

Amanda H. Jensen: I see my "Review Names" statistics. Two categories show: number of "Names Corrected" and number of "Countries Helped". You don't see your numbers?

In Get Involved, I'm seeing the OCR changing abbreviated names to full names. Example: Chas. to Charles, etc. Is there a new rule concerning this? In Indexing we are taught to always index what we see and to not change to a standard spelling.. Where can I find a standard list of rules for Get Involved? Thank you

As far as I know, there are no "standard rules" for Get Involved --and you're right, this is causing a lot of concern and doubt. 😎

hello there! I look forward to my Sunday indexing time every week and I am glad I indexed 4000 records so far. Today I went to do my indexing and I realised that I can only click on 'find a project/batch' which comes out with a tiny list. Before I had two options, and one had the world map, I could click on that map and choose a country, and then I could choose a record from a specific town.
Now with the new design, I spent 30 minutes searching but I cannot locate at all where the search by country.
Could a kind soul enlighten me? I am gutted.
Thanks a lot!

The map seems to have gone in the new display. The nearest I can come to your previous method is sorting the projects alphabetically.

Excellent (common sense) advice, regarding abbreviated names, at https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/where-do-i-find-project-instructions-for-review-names:
"Should I correct abbreviations?
The purpose of reviewing is to make the name easier to find. Ask yourself how the name would most likely be used in an online search. If the abbreviation is not an actual name, consider spelling it out."
If only all indexing project instructions followed the same lines, instead of being inconsistent and often making our relatives more difficult to find!

I love the "Get Involved" heading and the app that allows busy people to "get involved" by reviewing from their phones. Indexing is one aspect of making records searchable. We should all do our part whether a large part or a small part, and whatever amount of time we may have to help others find their families. We should also encourage others to get involved.

Why oh why did you bury the Indexing help? I had to go to the Question Mark > Help Center > Get Involved and Indexing to halfway down the page to find the Indexing help. Not intuitive at all. People with little computer experience will not find it. It was placed before indexing in overview and was easy to find and use. Please move it to a more convenient spot.
