Arrival or departure date Australia, Albany—Inward Passenger Lists, 1873–1924

Hello,

In this batch which I am reviewing, Australia, Albany—Inward Passenger Lists, 1873–1924[M3KH-T3Q] is the date to be indexed as arrival or departure?

There are no clues in the other pages which are viewable to me but there must be an indication at the start of the book. Perhaps the answer could be included in the project instructions.

Seems a shame not to index a date at all and if this is not clarified early in the project it will potentially stall in reviewing.

thanks for your assistance

Julia

    Hi Julia,

I had the same confusion recently, and the answer I got was to use the date as departure date.

You may be reviewing some of my indexing!

    All the best,

    Patrick

Thank you everyone and I apologise for not having read the Project Instructions properly 😔

    They say :

Records may list only 1 date and place for an entry. Index these as the departure date and departure place unless the document specifically says it is the arrival date and place.

The column heading just says date - so it should be indexed as a departure date

The departure place is indicated in the "Where from" Column so that's easy

@PatrickCox6 glad you have joined the indexing community. It is very satisfying and some of the projects are fascinating. I have learned all sorts of things from getting involved.

@Raina Cook hello too - as usual @Melissa S Himes has the answer for your post - and the dash is like a ditto mark in this context indicating the same date until a new date is written.
