Help - trying to find Rose SURNAME UNKNOWN from Winsberg, Germany
I have an English census with a record of my ancestor born Winsberg/Winsburg, Germany in around 1866 (not exact year).
Would be so grateful of any help finding her German birth or baptism records please or her emigration record between 1866 and 1888 to England where she married John Ainsworth and lived in Yorkshire. MMN on her marriage certificate was Cook. Father's name Jacob Cook but this will likely be anglicised.
I can't find her German name under which she would have been baptised. Can anyone help or find her please in the German records? I don't speak German so it's difficult to search.
There is a Winsberg near Hamburg but I have to remember that wrong spellings of foreign names in England were common. So I've looked for Weinsberg, Winzberg and also have found a Winsberg (German spelling of a German settlement) in Transylvania now called Orlat.
I have searched all the English records including citizenship, immigration under Cook/Cooke/Kuch/Koch but no joy.
Can anyone find anything that matches please?

There is a Windsberg in the Rhineland-Palatinate, and there is a Rose, daughter of Jacob Koch, born in the Rhineland-Palatinate on 31 May 1862. Record is on Ancestry.

Thank you for this. I am investigating. Windsberg is 130km away from Mainz, where this Rose was born. Do you know how far the Mainz administration area covered? Would she have been in the Mainz Stadt Gerburtsregister? Seems like a long way for it to do so.

Sorry I can't be of direct help here, but I have encountered similar problems in identifying a family who came to England from Poland, albeit around 1900.
Initially, I thought the surname of the individual was ROSE, until I read further. It was with that surname I have so much trouble, as it appears the family might have been known as Rosenbaum or Rosenbloom in their native country.
With regards to your Rose Cook(e) I have found her in the 1891-1911 census (at https://www.familysearch.org/search/record/results?count=20&q.birthLikeDate.from=1861&q.birthLikeDate.to=1869&q.birthLikePlace=yorkshire&q.birthLikePlace.exact=on&q.givenName=john%20m&q.residenceDate.from=1891&q.residenceDate.to=1911&q.residencePlace=yorkshire&q.residencePlace.exact=on&q.spouseGivenName=rose%2A&q.spouseGivenName.exact=on&q.surname=ainsworth) but I assume you already have this information. Also (and I guess you have found this, too), I found the births of the HAINSWORTH children in the GRO index - all listing their mother's maiden name as COOK or COOKE.
I could not find any record of a Rose Cook / Koch or variants in the 1871 or 1881 census, except a married woman named Cook (born Germany) in the Middlesbrough area.
As with my case, I believe you might have some problem, relating to the anglicised name issue. As you request, hopefully someone with knowledge of German research might be able to offer more direct help.

Hi Paul, thanks so much for taking the time to investigate.
Yes that is the correct Rose Cook on the 1891/1911 censuses and I have found all the Hainsworth children with MMN Cook/Cooke. Also couldn't find Rose Cook/Koch or Jacob on the earlier census records and discounted the Middlesbrough one, but will take a second look.
I also think it's a problem of the anglicised name. I'm guessing she was Koch before, but who knows?
I really hope someone will be along with some specialist knowledge or a break through!
