Hi!

I was working on images for Franklin County Virginia. I had been working for a over a week on this family when suddenly I experienced (on the 9th, I believe) a technical problem. Things flashed in and out. So I shut down work for a while and came back a few minutes later. I had trouble with Carroll County as well that time. So I quit for the day. Next day everything else was good but most of the records I was working on in Franklin County have disappeared. I was systematically going through the Vital records and had reviewed early tax lists. The land data has also disappeared. All other image groups seemed fine. Finally, after decades of work I was honing in on a solid DNA match for Boyd important data disappears! Can anyone help me? Thanks!

Mary

Has anyone had large folders of Images disappear? I did download images to those I had found, but There were many records I had yet to review. I use the image URL to source my information. I don't have that for the images I do have. I was working on the Franklin County images, when I suddenly became unable to access any images. Figuring that they were having an issue I came back in the next day, and all the folders I had worked on had disappeared. Does anyone have any idea how to report this or how to access the images. It appears that the ones that are there are all more current ones and perhaps new. Thanks! Mary Boyd

    Good morning @Mary Boyd_1

It would be helpful if you could be more specific about exactly which land records or other items you were working on that you cannot now find or that will not now open. Did you save a list of catalog references? I'm presuming these are unindexed items.

I just checked Deed records, 1789-1814, Land suits, 1805-1818, 1821-1822, and Marriage bond register, 1786-1853, and each of them opened and displayed without issue.

If you have not done so already, I would recommend clearing your cache and FamilySearch cookies.

If you can give more details, I'll be happy to dig in depth.

This probably isn't Mary's problem with her computer. Looking at the trending issues on the Home page, there appears to be a system-wide problem. I only looked at the "disappearing images and unable to save" posts for the last few days, but, maybe this relates to those? Probably should have a look and see if they are similar. I am even having issues with this community page loading this morning.

    Hello Mary,

Could you tell me if this URL:

    https://www.familysearch.org/records/images/search-results?place=396464&page=1

Takes you to the place of your Franklin County searches? Do all the directories appear intact?

@DavidBeck1 According to Mary's later thread, she is not searching Louisiana. https://community.familysearch.org/en/discussion/116328/disappearing-images#latest

    Hello Mary,

From a simple technical point of view, did you consider chasing out Internet Cache and Cookies from your Browser? The idea I am working with here is that what you were seeing on screen were old webpages saved to your computer and which need replacing with fresh pages from the web.

This Guide Page may help you: Clearing Internet Cache and Cookies

The site was having technical problems on the 11th and 12th of February which eventually resulted in a banner announcement being posted on Search. Everyone was experiencing the same, so clearing their personal caches and cookies wasn't necessary.
