How can I delete historical events from my personal timeline? Are there others to include?
I was born in Chicago and grew up in the mid-west. Ogden City is referenced in four of the historical events listed. The opening and closing of the Ogden City Mall and the Osmond Family moving to Ogden are two of them. I have never lived in Odgen, but two of my adopted children were born in Ogden.
I would like a broader view of historical events reflective of the places or larger communities in which I have lived. In my ideal world, I could choose historical events that even reflect some of my values. For example: My mother was an opera singer. I would prefer an event about classical music.
When there are major national or world events happening -- a city mall seems quite boring and stale. What purpose does that information serve to increase interest in my life and times?
And another problematic event for me included these words: "Department of Education was organized to guide the schools throughout the United States in what to teach and how to teach it. The Department also collects data on the schools to see where government focus needs to go." Regardless of public, private, or homeschool education choices, this is not reflective of the "history" of a place.
History should not be defined simply by current fads, current debates, political events, or sports.
I love FamilySearch. I think the idea of Historical events is really great and has incredible potential. But the Ogden City Mall holds no charm for a Chicago girl.

Thank you for posting this question in the Community.
Here is a link to an article in the Help Center that will help you customize your timeline.
You can add to, edit and delete information from your timeline or the timeline of your ancestors. We think you will love this feature.
Best wishes.

FYI
I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...
Just in passing ...
Further to what 'CJTobler' has already proffered ...
Basically ...
The ONLY "Option", with "Historical Events", is to have them either, (1) Displayed; or, (2) NOT Displayed.
[ ie. Turned "On"; or, Turned "Off" ... that is it ... ]
There is NO "Option", to "Choose" WHAT "Historical Events" appear.
Well, not yet, anyway ...
But we can live in hope ...
I know, that this certainly may not help/assist; but, I hope, that this may provide you with, some additional, insight; and, perspective; and, another avenue to pursue.

Here is a snap shot of the add feature that can be used for your timelines. Using the bottom choice, Custom Event, could help you add interesting facts.
Best wishes to you both☺️

'Yes' ...
But, those "Events", in the "Other Information" section, for an individual/person, have NOTHING to do whatsoever, with the "Historical Events", CREATED by 'FamilySearch', that appear, in the "Time Line", of an individual/person.
Those "Historical Events", CREATED by 'FamilySearch', that appear, in the "Time Line", of an individual/person, are WHAT, 'DRecksiek', is referring, in his post.
IF, one had, the 'Time'; and, the desire; THEN, ...
One CAN, spend one's time, individually "Adding", the likes of VARIOUS "Custom Events", to EVERY one of one's Ancestors, in the HOPE, that such, MAY, appear, in the "Time Line", of one's Ancestor.
But ...
That Said ...
MOST of us, DO NOT have the 'Time'.
And ...
As an aside ...
I have added, some "Custom Events", to the "Other Information" Section, of an individual/person, that DO NOT appear, in the "Time Line" of that individual/person concerned; even, though, I have got the "Custom Event"; as, "Enabled"; as, an "Option", in the "Time Line".
And, I have NOT, been able to ascertain/understand, WHY, some "Custom Events" appear; and, other "Custom Events" DO NOT appear - and, I have tried 'Tweaking' DIFFERENT things.
I reiterate ...
Basically ...
In the "Time Line", of an individual/person ...
The ONLY "Option", with "Historical Events", that are CREATED by 'FamilySearch', is to have them either,
(1) Displayed; or,
(2) NOT Displayed.

There is NO "Option", to "Choose", WHAT "Historical Events", that are CREATED by 'FamilySearch', appear.
Just my thoughts.
