Part names

I have seen different answers being provided to similar queries. In your specific case I would follow Maureen's advice unless you are sure there are other letters that follow the legible part of the name. In this example, if you believe the original reads (say) "Judith", but the last part of the name is illegible, I would record as "Judi*". I would follow as Maureen says only if no other letters appear to have ever been added to the "Judi". Some users may contradict this advice, but if the general instruction is to add a wildcard where there are missing / indecipherable letters, I believe this should apply whether the letters are at the front, middle or back of the name.

Hello jeanmanwaring1
I hope this link Helps.
Type names as they appear on the document. Do not correct misspellings or expand abbreviations unless the project instructions direct otherwise.
Best Regards Maureen
