error message when trying to search records.

Hi can anyone help me please?

Having signed in, I am getting a repeated error message when trying to use the search facility. It reads "oops, something went wrong. please refresh the page".

I have been getting this for a number of days. Does anyone know if Family Search are updating their website and this is what is causing the problem? If it isn't that does anyone have the answer as to how I solve the problem.

It's really frustrating as I use the site in conjunction with other geneology sites. Many thanks

Lucy

I used to find this problem all the time, but I have tried various types of search just now and am unable to replicate.

It appears at least one of the reasons this used to occur (checking an "Exact" box, then leaving that field blank) no longer causes the "Oops, something went wrong. Please refresh the page" message to appear.

Your problem could be cookie or browser related, but it might be a great help if you could post an example URL, or screenshot, which illustrates the inputs you are making in getting this message to appear.

As a general comment, I do have to acknowledge that some changes have been made to improve the interface.

The reporting of this issue has made me aware that I haven't seen this ("Oops..") screen for several weeks now, meaning the developers must have made some improvements, after all.

My apologies for doubting any action at all had been taken to improve user experience with the new interface. I know many are struggling, so updates on "fixes" to reported problems would really be appreciated - as would notifications of currently, ongoing work.

Any acknowledgment that you (the developers) are working hard to make life easier for the many thousands of users who are still really struggling would be most appreciated.

    Hi Paul W

thank you for that. It could be a cookie thing. I cleared the cookie cache to correct something else on another website, so have probably upset the balance. I am literally opening the family search website and clicking on the search tab at the top of the screen and then records in the drop down box to bring up the various search options boxes

when the error message comes up this is what the web address is saying

    https://www.familysearch.org/search/

I did try signing out and then back in, and that seemed to correct the problem, but having exited the web page and gone back in later I am getting the same problem. Should it be relevant, I have asked the system to keep me logged in for two weeks. Perhaps that is causing the problem.

I have had the same issue for weeks now. I have cleared all cookies/caches, and then the entire computer's history. I signed in/out several times, have shut my computer down and re-booted. The FamilySearch home page comes up fine, but once I hit "search" or any other function, the screen shows the "oops" message. All other websites are working fine on my computer. Just watching this post to see if anyone at Family Search is able to provide solutions. Fingers crossed!

Quick Update: Trying to access information at Family Search Wiki pages, it states "Fatal error authenticating user". Using the link to report a problem, it redirects to this page. Suggestions appreciated...
