Family History Resource File - 1881 British Census and National Index: set of CDs
Although 'outdated' (produced late 1990's) this set of CDs worked with Windows 10.
Having upgraded to Windows 11 - I note that the 'Viewer 2.0' file looks to 'work' okay - but the CDs do seem to be recognized and cannot be viewed.
Is there a process by which the programme can be used?

Support for the product was dropped more than 10 years ago and it was never designed to run with Windows 10. Many users could use it in Windows 10 by running it in compatibility mode but as more Microsoft patches came out it became less and less usable. Windows 11 even in compatibility mode fails and to get it to run means lots of hacks to the Microsoft system. You can make it and other CD based products work like new but it requires a fair amount of technical expertise by using virtual machines ie. Windows 7 under Windows 11 in a virtual system. Products such as vmware and vbox work very well.

Thanks for your comments and suggestions. Way beyond my expertise (lack thereof!) but my son in law is likely to make use of virtual machine possibilities. Will likely try it out. Use the CDs rarely these days but can be useful for browsing around

Any suggestions as to what to do with the UK 1881 Census disks? Would anyone be able to make use of them? I also have a full set of Vital Records.
I have been unable to use them with my last two laptops. I would donate them if anyone would like them. There is a lot of plastic and CDs to re-cycle.
