Indexing Specialist
I asked this question in June 2021: " Is there a need for a Ward to have a Indexing Specialists?"
Since I have been the Ward Temple and Family History Leader since November of 2020, I do not see the need for "another" calling in the Ward that has this label of Indexing Specialist.
Are their any other Ward/Stakes that have this particular "calling"? What benefit to the Ward or Stake is this particular assignment?
I have asked our Ward Bishopric to delete or reassign these individuals to other callings or reassign them to Ward Temple and Family History Consultants.

In the LCR there is a calling called "Indexing Worker". This calling is for those whom the bishop may want to call to have an opportunity to serve. They serve by indexing. They don't help teach other people to index or anything else family history related. They just index as a way to serve.

We have this in our ward and stake I believe. As for why? This is my personal guess.
As the Ward Temple and Family History Leader, youre in charge of the Family History work in your ward, but more so how that translates to getting the names to the Temple. I believe the focus for your position is more on the work of taking names to the temple and finishing all the ordinaces for them, as well as moving your ward to perform them as well for their deceased relatives.
You are also the admin of your ward's indexing group, and that means you do oversee the indexing and reviewing. However I think that in the day to day details, that is what the Indexing Specialist is there for. They are like this 'Community' tab for your ward to whom they can go to with indexing questions, help, and who should be working with you encouraging and guiding your ward in Family History and Indexing.
They should be what will keep the indexing moving forward always and at all times. They work with the records side in your ward, and you work with the temple side of things for your ward. Two fronts in the same cause. You will both compliment and complete each others work.
Im dont hold either one of these callings so I dont know the ins and outs, but this is what Ive assumed they are for.

Having held both of these callings in the past, I assure you that the only reason there isn't a need for an Indexing Specialist, is if your ward isn't doing very much indexing. Their job is to help keep things moving and people active as indexers. The bishop will call people because he received inspiration and guidance to do so. If you as T&FH leader are doing everything imaginable to get indexing done, the need of the other is diminished.

I am the Indexing Team Leader for my Ward. My calling is to encourage indexing in the Ward and monitor progress. One of misconceptions of the calling is people think the more records that are indexed/ reviewed is completed the better the ward is doing. What you want to improve is how many members in the ward are doing Indexing/ reviewing each month, not the number of records that are completed that month.
My other respondsbility is to report the results of how many records are indexed/ reviewed and how many active indexers we had in the ward for the month.
I think this calling is necessary if you want to improve the indexing numbers in your Ward.
