When indexing the name listed in the Wife section; do I assume the surname is the same as the husband.

Ah. I see. No, I would Ctrl+B the Surname of the wife when only a GN is recorded for her because of the following from the Field Help (purple question mark) for Grantor's Surname:

"Do not assume a surname from the surnames of others mentioned in the document."

    Hi @Rebecca Wells Olachea-Segura

For the best answer, please post your Batch Code: US, New York, Capital—Index to Land Records, Grantees, 1630–1975 [Part A][MXXX-XXX] The MXXX-XXX is the Batch code.

But, if you're asking about what to do when you see "& Wife" after a Grantee or Grantor's name, the answer is that you ignore it. From the Field Help for the Grantee's Surname field (purple question mark):

When typing the name of the grantee, do not include descriptive words or terms, such as "by Atty," "et al," or "and spouse," that may have been written with the name.

I'm sorry, I do understand abt the descriptive notes.

I'm indexing the following: US, New York, Capital—Index to Land Records, Grantees, 1630–1975 [Part A][MSYF-DLN]

There is a column in the Grantors section on the left side; the column states Wife & C. - when it gives a given name for the wife do I include the surname of the husband?

Thank you for responding quickly! ;)
