I am indexing a New York Southern Tier land record index. The instructions say to not use terms like "and" or "Spouse" and to make separate entries for each grantor when there is more than one. The batch I am doing lists "+ wife" with a name in the grantor column.

I assume I should make 2 entries. Do I put "Mrs" in the prefix box and the Husband's given name in the given names box. There are no given names listed for the wife.

You should not make an entry when it says +wife. If there was a given name for the wife, then she would have a listing. You only put Mrs in the prefix box IF it is written on the image.

"Index the name of a wife as a separate grantor. Do not assume the surname of the wife from the grantor column. Do not create a separate entry if only the word "wife" was recorded."
