In my current batch which is the "UK, England, Diocese of Blackburn—Church of England Parish Registers, 1813–2021 [Part D][M3V4-X1G]", the first 2 entries for a marriage entry are easy to read but have been crossed out. These two entries have the same name with the same dates and information. However, on the second entry, there's a note that says: "Taken down".

I plan on indexing one of the crossed out entries, but I just want to make sure I'm not complicating anything, especially for relatives in the future.

My question is, am I doing the right thing by going ahead and including one of the crossed out, duplicate enties in my indexing batch? I've gone ahead and also indexted the other non-crossed out entries which have no duplicates.

Thank you! 😊

You were correct to only index one of the entries since they would be exact duplicated entries. You only need one record to get the researcher to the image and they will see that there are two entries.

This follows the General Indexing Guideline in the Project Instructions for Crossed Out, Corrected, Canceled or Voided Information.

When information was crossed out, corrected, canceled, or marked void, follow the instructions for “crossed out” that match the situation.

    • When information was crossed out and then replaced, type the new information in the appropriate fields.
    • When information was crossed out, was not replaced, and can be read, type the crossed-out information.
    • When information was crossed out, was not replaced, and cannot be read, mark the field as unreadable by pressing Ctrl+U, or on the indexing toolbar click the ? icon.

Thank you for your response and help!

I did find the information for crossed out words. Thank you for confirming this information. 😊❤️
