Batch [Part N] [M3J7-2WX] The indexer has put different dates on the enlistment date.

I understand that you should use the date at the top of the Monthly Roster for the enlistment date. The indexer on this batch has put a different date on entries 20, 42, 60, 61, and 63, because there is a note that the person enlisted in the company on a certain day. The indexer used this day combined with the month and year from the top of the page to put as the enlistment date. The rationale was probably this guideline:

"When multiple dates are present on the image, please choose the military month based on the following hierarchy:

1. Enlistment date
2. Muster roll or monthly roster date
3. Any other applicable military date

If more than 1 enlistment date was given, use the earliest date, month and year from the top of the page."

My question is this. Is the date in the note the date the person enlisted in the company, rather than in the military? If the enlistment date we are recording is supposed to be either the monthly roster date or the military enlistment date rather than the company enlistment date, would'nt the following guideline apply?

"If there is a transfer record and each name has a date, such as "24th," or month or year, and there is a complete date recorded at the top or bottom of the page, use the complete date for each person on the record."

Enlistment date refers to the date the person enlisted in the military not to the date that he joined a certain company. normally if there is an enlistment date it will be in a column with day Enlisted, as a heading .

If you read the instructions carefully you will note that there is a distinction between enlistment date and military date. The date at the top of a roster is a military date and is second choice of date to use if there is no enlistment date given.

Hope this makes it clear and doesn't just make things more confusing.

The date at the top of the report for most of these rosters is the last day of a certain month...this is the #2 priority after date the soldier enlisted in the military. The military date is more the format of how the date is written. DD MMM. Go Army, Beat Navy! :)

Those “jd” (joined) dates are when the soldier joined the military unit, not the military service (I.e., enlisted). Sometime you’ll see “assd not yet Jd” (already in the military, and assigned to the unit but not yet joined it). Those non-enlistment dates are in the 3rd category of “other military dates” from the list you cited. So the date of the roll or roster - found at the top of the page or from an earlier page - has priority over them.

BTW. We’re Indexing a “Military Date” for a soldier. We want the enlistment date if we can get it, but we will accept other military dates in the priority order you cited.
