This looks like an index that should not be indexed

I would like a second opinion before I mark this as No extractable data. Project instructions say . . .

  • Indexes are images with only a name and reference information, such as page or volume number, with no other information, such as dates, available. Indexes should be marked as No, No Extractable Data.

They have a month and a year, so they are indexable! Problem is, they are all Baptisms that have been indexed as burials. I'd just send them back for reindexing and hope the next indexer figures it out. Unless you feel like indexing them as baptisms.

They are the Marylebone, Baptism Registers from 1866-1882.

Thanks Melissa, that sorts it out. I have to admit to some embarrassment because I did not see that they were baptisms. I looked through all the reference images but didn't see anything to indicate burials or baptisms.

This is a good learning example, how did you know they were baptisms?

It's probably best that I index it now as that will avoid any confusion.

Glad to be of help, Alan, and absolutely no need to be embarrassed. The "trick" is not readily explained for some reason. The way I knew they were baptisms was by finding the image on the film.

When you click on Batch and then About Batch you will see the Image Name: 008041102_00289

The first part of that is the Image Group Number and the second part is the Image Number. You can conduct an Image Search using the Advanced Search method. (Search, Images, Show More Search Options, Show Advanced Search, Image Group Number, Image 289 of 316) Bingo!!! Then you can view the whole film and figure out what the image actually is. This takes a bit of investigation, but, since most of us are also researchers, it is pretty easy to figure out! Play with the search feature, it is a lot of fun! Sometimes it doesn't work but 99% of the time, the film is available for viewing and allows us to be successful reviewers and indexers!

Here's the link to that image on the full filmstrip: https://www.familysearch.org/records/images/image-details?imageGroupNumbers=008041102&rmsId=TH-909-67651-116016-85&imageIndex=288&singleView=true

What a useful piece of information 😀

I will play, in the past I've spent a lot of time trawling through unindexed images and turned up a couple of really useful references.
