I have hit a dead end and need help continuing the family tree backwards beyond great great grandpa.

    You have not provided any detail about him in order that someone might be able to offer help.

    However, you should not consider your position to be too unusual. We all hit a dead end eventually in our research of the different branches of our family. Sometimes records were destroyed, or the information about an ancestor's birth was just not recorded. It is frustrating when you get to that point, but sometimes there are less obvious places to find clues. So, if you wish, give us the details of your great great grandfather and somebody reading these might be able to help you further - no guarantee, though!
