If a guardian is shown as giving permission for the bride should he be listed as the father or should the parent field be left blank?

I would take the name of the field literally and reserve it for the actual father of the bride and not index a guardian’s name in it. The Instructions, Examples and Field Helps provide NO leeway on this, so I’d interpret it strictly and leave it empty (Tab over it).

The data owners and Project managers may prefer a broader interpretation than the strict wording of the instructions and the field name. If so, I would request that they communicate this via the Moderators, or better still, make it plain in the Field Helps what are the acceptable substitutes for the parents.

Guidelines used to say not to enter a guardian as a parent but it doesn't say that anywhere anymore. A guardian can be close to his ward or simply take care of legal matters. I wouldn't index him as a parent.
