Are there any future plans to be able to add videos into memories.

It would really be cool to be able to add video clips to the memories section. I have some old video of my grandmother, that was recorded when they featured her on TV in the 1980"s. It was recorded on a VCR but I have digitized it so I could keep it on my computer.

Thanks in Advance, Ron🎬️

this same subject is brought up every few months

I am not a FS employee and it would be better if a FS employee chimed in and gave a response.

BUT from my own conversations directly with FS employees - though this has been an "ask" for a very long time (many years) - there have been some challenges with this as reported by FS employees

    1) The massive size of video files and the corresponding need for data storage

    2) difficulties in effectively scanning and preventing videos with inappropriate content

    3) simply the fact that other platforms are much better set up to handle video streaming than FS

BUT you can still make reference to a video even if it is not stored under FS

    here is an example:

I have never heard any indication that this is something we should expect any time soon. . . . but who knows . . .

    @RonaldOsborn4

Thank you for posting in the Community about uploading videos. The article from the Help Center states "We hope to be able to accept video in the future. We currently don’t have a reliable way to screen video files before they become visible."

Please continue to add photos, documents, and audio recordings to your Memories.

    Have a great day.

    Additional Information to consider:

Photo, Document and Audio Recording Screening Policy Guidelines

Content MAY NOT contain images, depictions, or descriptions of

4.Links to outside websites (i.e. no URLs).

URLs may be included in "Sources" especially when they have historical record significance as in the example given by Dennis J Yancey above.

Here are directions to add an outside source to a FamilySearch Person page:

Thank you for your interest in documenting your ancestors in FamilySearch.

note that when you paste a URL inside a Memories "STORY" (Text based item) and save it.

It is NOT a true clickable hyperlink.

As far as I can tell FS is allowing non hyperlink references to URL's that are not clickable.

(such as the one I gave an example of)

any actual true hyperlinks are stripped off when the item is stored.
