Is a record actually available in FamilySearch?

Hello,

I came across a source about a Margt [seemingly short for Margaret], who is a daughter of Michl [seemingly short for Michael] McDonogh and Bridget King. It appears as if Margaret was baptized on 5 Apr 1784 in Dublin Ireland

So, is Margaret's record in FamilySearch? I've been searching for a Margaret McDonough, although not yet absolutely certain of her actual surname. I'm trying to learn if her surname may actually be McDonogh, based on the above source.

I guess my general question or curiosity is about how some of the information that is seemingly available in ancestry.com might also be available in FamilySearch. Please share what you may.

For a record to be available through the FamilySearch website, the record owner needs to sign a contract with FamilySearch. A lot of owners choose to make their records available exclusively on just one website. However Ancestry.com and FamilySearch have a deal that involves them sharing records with each other. Therefore some records previously available only on Ancestry are now also available on FamilySearch, and vice versa.

I just did a search for Margt McDonogh, between 1782 and 1786 in Dublin in the FamilySearch search engine, and did not find the record you mentioned. Unfortunately, I cannot use that link because I don't have a personal subscription to Ancestry. (It doesn't work for my library subscription).

Since the link leads behind Ancestry's paywall, I have no idea what you're looking at.

There are materials -- both indexes and images -- that are shared between FS and the pay sites. (MyHeritage especially delights in trying to get people to pay to access FS's records, and Ancestry is only marginally better.) There are also people who spend their time propagating trees from one site to the others, in all directions, without any attention to things like user agreements and copyright. And then there are materials that FS holds but cannot publish, because they're on a pay site (such as some German church records, because of Archion). So it really all depends on the specifics.
