Recently, I have notice a multitude of transcription errors in Mass. Birth and Marriage records.

Here is an example

Massachusetts, Town Clerk, Vital and Town Records, 1626-2001," database with images, FamilySearch

(https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:DC1S-82ZM : 16 August

2021), Marie R. Lamaire, 12 Feb 1877

The date is the same for all records on the page and all of the dates are incorrect with the wrong year. There are numerous other examples. I do not know if a new batch was put in the system, but, it is creating duplicate records of people and marriages with incorrect dates.

Lately more and more transcriptions are being done by machine. Some can be edited, which gives us a chance to make corrections and hopefully help to train the machine so accuracy improves.

That is terrible! I have been making quite a few corrections to the transcriptions myself when that function is available, but this is not good at all.

Citation: "Iowa, County Marriages, 1838-1934," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XJFV-YYN : 4 November 2017), Michael Arn and Christina Miller, 29 Oct 1853, Johnson Co., Iowa, United States; citing reference , county courthouses, Iowa; FHL microfilm 1,685,582. has the date the JP certified he solemnized the marriage as the marriage date and I am not able to edit it. On 29 Oct 1853 (listed as marriage date) he certified he solemnized the marriage on 3 Oct 1853, the correct marriage date.

I found that in the Massachusetts 1900 census, my ancestor was transcribed as living with a totally different family. I wish there was a way to correct it!
