Child born out of wedlock
My mother was born out of wedlock. Her mother never told her nor did she tell family members who the father was. My mother did not find out she was illegitimate until she was 60 years old and there were no family members of the previous generation alive that could give her answers to her questions. (Family lore was that her mother was at a party where drinking was involved and she was ****) When my mother was 65 yr old, her less active step-father became temple worthy and asked for my mother's permission to be sealed to her mother. My mother was overjoyed and asked if she could also be sealed to them. This occurred in 1972, so we have been following the sealing line as our genealogical line. Just this year a birth certificate emerged indicating my mother's biological father, (who was married to another woman at the time of her birth) Researchers (not in our family) keep attaching the biological father to my grandmother as a "spouse" without record and my mother as a child. This puts his line into Family Search as my direct ancestor line even though the sealed line is checked as preferred. I delete the "spouse" record and put the reason in the notes, but then someone else adds it back in. With a birth certificate now in Family Search, this will probably continue to be a problem. We do not want that biological line to be our genealogical line!! And we certainly don't want our grandmother sealed to this man she was never married to (nor my mother sealed to them) What can I do about this in Family Search records?
