    Hi Donald,

    The invalid characters in LQR3-P6X are: the period , the dash and the parentheses

    Check out this Article for a list:

    https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/what-words-and-abbreviations-cause-needs-more-information-to-appear

    What can you do?

    Enter the name as: John Cregier  or Greiger

    Add the extra information in the "Other Information" section

    This is incorrect. Of those three things, only parentheses are actually invalid. As you can see if you edit the name, the following are not allowed:

    \@#$%&*_+=|~/><[]{}();:0123456789

    Notice that dashes (hyphens), periods, apostrophes, commas, and quotes are all perfectly fine. (So are exclamation marks and question marks, apparently. I should test those, but the beta site is still down, and I'm reluctant to litter anybody's change log on the "real" site.)

    @Donald James Findlay

    You have received two comments about how to enter names into Family Tree to avoid using invalid characters, but perhaps it would be helpful to actually read the knowledge article from our Help Center about how to enter names into Family Tree which provides a list of what the software considers invalid characters.

    https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/how-to-enter-names-in-family-tree

    Both of the individuals who provided a response did a great job of reminding you that the software is designed to help us enter information about our ancestors appropriately. Thank you for sharing your concern, and we hope you will review this article which contains some other suggestions about how to identify the ancestors you enter into Family Tree.
